Graduation Exhibition

It's my graduation show tonight.
I'm graduating from Design & Illustration at Enmore Tafe.
I designed the logo and invites.
Come along, it will be fun!

not quite sea creatures (continued... again)

not quite sea creatures (continued)

not quite sea creatures

These are all experiments for some future artwork.
I want to merge sea creatures with plants in the style of botanical illustrations.
I think one day I would like to be a botanical Illustrator.

book cover for Lord of the Flies

This is a book cover. It's a bit small. I'm being a bit of a protective mum with this one. It seems that the happier I am with something, the smaller the file size. If you ever see an image attachment the size of one pixel you'll have to assume it's a masterpiece.

Picture Books

Hello. The other week we had a Donna Rawlins come to talk to us about illustrating Children's Picture Books. I think it's something I would rather like to do. These are some ideas. They're not from complete stories, they are just little glimpses of nice things with some text. Please note: the one of the man walking in the snow looks a lot like the cover of a Ernest and Celestine by Gabrielle Vincent even though the character is a bear. I hope you don't count it as plagiarism. The book is very dear to me.

The Brain Surgeon

Hello again. I have a rare treat for you- a class project that has not made me want to cry and eat lead-based paint but made me want to sing and post! Yes. This one was definitely postworthy. the brief was to emulate an Arcimboldo using 'tools of the trade' for any chosen occupation. I made this one a bit grotesque to redeem myself from the previous project which involved a seahorse, an hibiscus, the colour fuchsia and an offer to go to bed with a man in my class. I'm much happier now.

More Sketchbook

Oh! how neglectful I've been. haven't posted in over a month! please, fans, forgive me ;) Now these ones may just look like filler and I know what you're thinking "here we go, more sketchbook stuff. How indulgent." Well, that's what a blog is, isn't it? Besides, the sketchbook part of any artist site is my absolute favourite. yum! it's like how sometimes sneaking a finger lick from the cake mixing bowl can be tastier than the final baked cake...
if you know what i mean.
enjoy!

The Priest & The Beast

I told you there was more coming!

The Gardener

The last few things have been nice but... well, i want to give you more than nice. instead of saying, "oh how sweet," or "how quaint" or "very folksy" i want you to say "Wow! Outta Sight!" or "Holy Cool!" or "Cash-Money!"
so i'm giving you some photoshop colours in some kick-arse boy-art. no birds and flowers here!
except for the flowers in the man's speech bubble... and i think there are butterflies too... which are arguably girlier than birds... regardless! it's time to get graphic and there's more on the way.

ps.
it's very small because i'm becoming a protective mother. steal and you shall suffer the consequences of low resolution. HA!

Early American Design Motifs

These are some designs inspired by those in Susanne E. Chapman's Early American Design Motifs which is one of the Dover publications. I just want to say I love the Dover Pictorial Archive Series. When I'm an established man I shall purchase every single one of the suckers. I wonder if they come in a box set... If anyone knows whether they come in a box set please contact me at the email address provided at the top of the page.

Window Stains

Hi blog, I'm sorry I've neglected you for so long. This is an oldie from the vault. It's from March of last year. That's ages ago! It was when I first discovered the dip pen and brush and before the industry harlot TAFE destroyed my fantastical whimsy.

my quote unquote studio

I thought I'd show you some photos of where I do my things. Apologies for the socks & undies hanging in my room. It's been raining.
